Pia Watches How I Met Your Mother

S07E23, S07E24 – The Magician’s Code

“His name is Marvin Wait For It…”

These past 7 years we’ve been on a journey, one hell of a journey really, that makes me life look absolutely miserable, yet I can’t help but feel that Ted’s kids sitting on that sofa are feeling slightly bored.

That’s not to say that I’m bored of the show, far from it, but I feel as if it lost its scope. We were promised from day 1 that we’d be told the story of how Ted met his wife (actually, what if it turns out that he divorced his wife, she’d still technically be the mother! but I digress… ) but it seems like we’ve been told the story of how Ted slept with every woman in New York (I mean really, all those partners over the years? Would you really tell your children all of that? and even with his best friend’s wife!), and how he ruined another man’s chance at happiness but stealing his bride on her wedding day (Ted haven’t you learnt your lesson, really?!) and lots of other technically insignificant details.

What I mean though, is that this season’s been less about Ted and more about his friends.  And I can’t recall every episode of the season but he’s pretty much spent it all whining about the one and not doing much about it.

And honestly Ted, you’re getting to your mid-thirties, I’d stop being picky and settle if I were you.

But again, I’ll stop.

So we’re promised that Ted’s going to meet his wife at Barney’s wedding, does that mean that the story will end when the wedding episode(s) air, or will they carry on? That’s something I’ve always wondered.

Also, did anyone feel that the whole Barney-Robin wedding clip is being stretched out a bit too much? We’re basically told about this wedding at the end of season 6 and here we are, a year later, and we’re (almost) none the wiser!

But back to the finale at hand, I actually loved it! Especially the clips in the first episode especially this one:

and not to mention Ted’s ridiculous labour e-mail, http://lilysinlabor.com!

Also, just did some maths and I’ve calculated that Ted has to meet the mother within the next year, at most the next two, because those kids aren’t going and it’s 2030, which is only 18 years away!

But that’s it from me, anything you’d like to add… or trash my own thoughts if you must!

Pia Listens To Dio

Plagiarism clearly wasn’t an issue back in the 80′s

I decided to listen to my records while studying so that I don’t have an excuse to use my computer to avoid distractions, and I was looking through my dad’s old records for ones I hadn’t listened to yet and I picked out Dio’s Sacred Heart.

Flipped to side 2 and Hungry for Heaven starts playing, only for a second I thought that somehow I had an extra-special copy of Sacred Heart with a The Who track recorded instead of the actual one.

But it just turns out that they blatantly copied the guitar riff from Baba O’Riley.

Have a listen:

and here’s Baba O’Riley by The Who

Don’t get me wrong though, I’m not slagging off the great Dio, in fact I’m a long time Dio fan, I just haven’t listened to all his albums yet.

Pia Watches Once Upon A Time

S01E22 – A Land Without Magic

“It’s like … magic” – Emma

I started watching this show rather late in the season, same time as I started watching Grimm, and even though I spent a lot of time comparing these two shows at the start, now that the season has ended I’ve decided that they’re both pretty great shows in their own ways.

Which brings me to the finale and woah, what a ride.

But can I start with how sudden Emma accepted that magic existed? She spent 21 episodes denying it constantly and then she just decided it’s magic, I know her son was in danger but it was still a bit too quick in my opinion.

I accepted and enjoy pretty much the rest of the episode, it was all good fun, and the Charming/Snow bits were so sweet you can’t help but ‘aww’ at them.

Now, here come the questions. Why did Rumplestilskin decide he wanted the potion of true love now, and more importantly why did he want to unleash magic then? He had that intention before he met Belle so it can’t be because he wanted to get back at Regina because of her. Did I miss something?

And when everyone in Storybrooke remembered who they actually are did they forget the life they were living in the non-magical world? If yes, why weren’t they freaked out by the hospital and the technology and their surroundings? But the nurse/nun told Regina she’d better hide so that would mean they knew they were cursed…then why did Snow tell Charming that he found her? He already had, so I’m rather confused at what really happened to the residents’ memories.

So, what do you think?

“Why? Because magic is power” – Rumplestiltskin

Pia Watches Fringe

S04E22 – Brave New World (2)

“They are coming” – September

It’s impossible to talk about the season 4 finale without mentioning two important things, one being Episode 4.19 and the other being the fact that Fringe has always been on the brink of cancellation these past 2 or 3 years.

Compared to previous finales this one was rather low key. By that I mean it didn’t have the wow factor such as the season 3 finale when Peter disappeared off the face of all universes. I’m pretty certain I spent the rest of the afternoon staring at my screen in awe.

Episode 19′s jump into the future told us what we’re to expect in the coming season which meant that the outcome of most of the finale was already known and as an episode it also could have easily been accepted as a series finale if it weren’t renewed.

That said, there are a couple of questions I wouldn’t mind having answered.

William Bell for starters. How is he not dead? When Peter was erased was the timeline rewritten in such a way that he didn’t die? Nina said he died in a car accident just as the alt-Bell died but she saw his body so what did he do and where has he been all this time? And where did he go at the end of the finale? We know he comes back because of 4.19 but how and why?

I also have a few issues with Olivia’s pregnancy. I’m not that aware about how miscarriages occur but if she’s only been pregnant for a few weeks would her dying, being dead, coming back to life cause the pregnancy to end? or did the Cortaxiphan mean that it was repaired if anything went wrong? This bit’s a bit iffy but I did find it annoying.

Also, did anyone feel like they were suddenly watching an episode of Supernatural when September was trapped because of a painted rune?

I’d love it if you’d all sound off in the comments below, let me know what you think.

And now I’ll leave you with my favourite Walter moment of the episode:

“Excuse me Miss, is that lemon jell-o?”

“These are urine samples.”

“Oh, well in that case, no thank you. I’m more peckish than thirsty.”

and the song I associated with the episode: September
